Fort Salem Theater Seeks Freelance Artists of All Experience Levels

Fort Salem Theater invites freelance artists of all experience levels to apply for our 2023 season, which includes Spring Awakening, You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, Footloose, Corn The Musical, The Rocky Horror Show, Pirates of Penzance, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and There’s No Business Like Snow Business. Typical show schedules begin 5-7 weeks in advance of each production’s opening night, plus any necessary meetings and pre-production work.

As a 501c3 non-profit organization, Fort Salem Theater hires creatives on a per-show basis with a modest stipend available for each position. Directors and designers are welcome to fulfill more than one position to maximize stipend opportunities when appropriate (examples: Director/Choreographer, Music Director/Rehearsal Accompanist/Pit Musician, Lighting Designer/Lighting Op, etc.)

Average stipends:
Director: $500
Music Director: $500
Choreographer: $250
Stage Manager: $200
Rehearsal Accompanist: $500
Costume Designer: $300
Properties Designer: $150
Lighting Designer: $200
Sound Designer: $200
Lighting Operator: $100
Sound Operator: $100
Pit Musician: $40/performance (averages $440 for a 6 performance + rehearsal period)
