Sherman Playhouse Opens Noir Suspense Comedy “Red Herring”

SHERMAN, CONN. (August 28, 2024) – You could say that The Sherman Players of Sherman CT have a lot going on!  With their next production about to launch, auditions for their closing show of the season just announced, and the opening of the 2025 season play submissions window, it’s shaping up to be a busy September!

On Friday, September 6, The Sherman Playhouse will open its next production in the 2024 season, the film noir-esque comedy RED HERRING.  Witten by Michael Hollinger, directed by Michael Frohnhoefer (Dir. Pride and Prejudice, 2023) and produced by Morgana Kate Watson, the curtain rises at 8:00 p.m. for a four-week run.

Three love stories, a murder mystery, and a nuclear espionage plot converge in this comedy about marriage and other explosive devices.

It’s 1952: America’s on the verge of the H-bomb, Dwight Eisenhower’s on the campaign trail, and I Love Lucy’s on Monday nights. Meanwhile, Senator Joe McCarthy’s daughter just got engaged to a Soviet spy, and Boston detective Maggie Pelletier has to find out who dumped the dead guy in the Harbor—or else lose out on a honeymoon in Havana

It’s a blunt-nosed, sharp-eyed look at love and tying (and untying, and retying) the knot that sees six actors take on sixteen roles in this fast-paced, stylish detective-spy-murder-suspense comedy!

The cast features Jennifer Wallace, Robert Roda, Maya Daley, Kevin McNulty, Stephanie Hepburn, and John Fabiani.

Besides Mr. Frohnhoefer, the production staff for RED HERRING includes Jana Makejeva (Stage Manager), Al Chiappetta (Technical Director, Set Construction and Lighting Designer), Nelson Fall (Set Construction), Roy Carch (Sound Designer), and Terry Hawley (Costumes).

RED HERRING runs September 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 8:00 p.m. on Fridays & Saturdays, with two 2:00 p.m. Sunday matinees on September 15 and 22.

Reservations can be made online at shermanplayers.org/buy-tickets or by calling the box office at (860) 354-3622.

Tickets are $24 for adults and $12 for under 13s or Students carrying valid ID.

Thursday, September 5 is the final dress rehearsal and patrons are invited to attend at 8.00pm.  All tickets for this “Half-Price Preview Night” are $12 and are only available at the door.

Next up will be auditions for the closing production of the season, “THE WORLD ACCORDING TO SNOOPY!!!”  Charles Schulz’s beloved Peanuts gang sing and dance in this revised and updated follow up to “YOU’RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN”.

Directed by Bradford Blake, with music direction by Charles Smith, the Playhouse is looking for six actors, aged 20-30 to take on the roles of Snoopy and the gang!

Auditions will take place at the Playhouse on Sunday September 15 from 6.00pm and Monday September 16 from 7.00pm.  Full details and signup form can be found at shermanplayers.org/auditions

And as if that wasn’t enough The Sherman Players are appealing for Director submissions for the 2025 season.  Directors should submit their proposals for productions they would like to direct.

Closing date for submissions is Monday September 28.  Visit shermanplayers.org/submissions.
