The Monument Arts & Cultural Center (44 Gypsy Lane, Bennington, VT) is excited to announce our upcoming musical-theater entertainment schedule. Our lineup follows.
“Million Dollar Quartet, “November 14-17.
The rollicking “Million Dollar Quartet” celebrates an extraordinary event that took place on th
night of December 4, 1956, when four young artists – Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee
Lewis, and Johnny Cash – gathered, by chance, at the Sun Record recording studios in
Memphis, Tenn.
The four immediately sat down for an impromptu and legendary jam session of early rock,
country, and gospel standards.
This musical is a rousing tale of broken promises, secrets, betrayal, celebrations – and fabulous
music performed live.
Hit songs include “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Walk the Line,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Whole Lotta
Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Hound Dog,” and more.
“An Evening of Broadway and More” with Oren Gradus, November 23.
MAC Center theatergoers will know Metropolitan Opera star Oren Gradus from his roles as
Captain von Trapp in “The Sound of Music” and Tevye in “Fiddler on the Roof.”
Oren may be a star of the opera, but he has a deep love for cabaret and musical theater, and
we are thrilled to welcome him back to our stage for more musical magic.
“Annie,” December 5-14.
“Annie” is the MAC Center’s holiday production this year. With its themes of hope and optimism,
the Broadway classic is a natural fit for the season.
Featuring children from the surrounding area in the roles of the orphans and Annie herself,
performances will run December 5-8 and December 12-14. Two casts of children — and two
Sandy the dogs — will perform in alternate shows.
The musical pits the spunky Annie against the child-hating orphanage owner Miss Hannigan,
her greedy brother Rooster, and his shady gal Lily. They start scheming when Annie is taken in
by the wealthy Daddy Warbucks, and the rest is Broadway gold.
Hit songs from “Annie” include “Tomorrow,” “It’s a Hard Knock Life,” and “I Think I’m Gonna Like
It Here.”
