Albany Civic Theater (ACT) is currently seeking submissions from directors for the 2025-2026 Season. We are looking for directors for 4 main stage shows.
The shows will run for three weekends each in one of the following calendar slots:
- September 2025
- December 2025
- February 2026
- May 2026
ACT looks for balance in each season with cutting edge, newly published works, and classic revivals which provide a combination of artistic risk and commercial success. ACT is a small theater space, ideal for intimate productions.
All submissions should include:
- Your current resume of directing experience.
- A description of the play.
- Which calendar slot(s) are you interested in?
- Are there any special technical, set, or costuming considerations?
- Why would the show appeal to an audience? What type of audience?
- What can you, as a director, bring to the play?
Other useful information when submitting:
- What unique interpretations will you bring to the production?
- How do you envision the play working in a small space?
- A list of production team members who have committed to your project. (For support finding production crew members, please feel free to contact Artistic Director, Ellen Cribbs.)
Remember to include your name, address, email address, and phone number on your resume.
Submissions must be received by December 29, 2024.
Please note: We strongly recommend that you submit electronic copies of plays, but we will accept physical copies. Physical copies will not be mailed back to you.

For submissions through mail:
- Put your submission in a clean manila envelope
- Mail a copy of the script of each submission for up to three selections to:

You may also deliver your submissions in person to the theater. There is a mail slot located to the left of the entrance doors.
Submissions will be chosen by a committee and approved by the Board of Directors. Please include any other information that you deem necessary in your proposal.
