R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots) is an apocalyptic science-fiction play about robots whose revolution against their human makers leads to the possible extinction of mankind. This is a fresh adaptation of the 1923 play. R.U.R. introduced the word “robot” into the English Language, and much of modern science fiction’s roots trace back to this melodrama, reviewed by the New Yorker as “murderous social satire.”
