“Starla” & “The Stone Angel” Come to Hubbard Hall

Starla & The Stone Angel: A Supernatural Showcase

Friday, June 6 & Saturday, June 7 at 7:30 PM

at Hubbard Hall Center for Arts & Education, 25 East Main Street, Cambridge NY

Step into the shadows with this gripping double-header featuring two original supernatural-themed one-act plays by local playwrights—previewing before their Capital Region Festival of Theatre debut at UAlbany on June 15.

The Stone Angel, written by Kelvin Keraga (producer of Whispering Bones), is a haunting exploration of grief and loss. It reveals how healing can come in unexpected ways when one soul helps another navigate sorrow. Presented as Whispering Bones’ festival entry.

Starla by David Skeele follows a lecherous theater professor who manipulates a young theater major during a “method” acting exercise intended to summon a real spirit. But his sinister plan backfires in chilling and unexpected ways. This play represents Hubbard Hall Theater Company’s entry in the festival.

MEET THE CAST & CREATIVE TEAM

Siri Allison (The one on stage in The Stone Angel)

Siri Allison has a double theater life – acting in plays and participating in the local storytelling scene. She is a member of the Story Circle of the Capital District and often tells stories in Kelvin’s annual ghost story show, Whispering Bones. At Fort Salem Theater, she has appeared in The Savannah Disputation (Margaret), Grease (Miss Lynch), Footloose (Betty Blast), and Agnes of God (Mother Miriam Ruth). She’s honored to work with Kelvin’s words and to plumb the on-stage depths with Tanya.

Tanya Gorlow (The one who enters in The Stone Angel)

Tanya Gorlow is pleased to be a part of The Stone Angel. Favorite roles include Hamlet in the play’s titular role; Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing; Macbeth and Lady Macbeth in the same production; Cindy in Fefu And Her Friends; and Tybalt, Paris, and Lady Capulet in Romeo & Juliet. Tanya was recently nominated for Best Performer in a Play for the BroadwayWorld Central New York Awards (up against her partner, Kerry, who was nominated twice – cough, cough). Huge thanks and love to Kerry, the fam, Kelvin, Siri, Hubbard Hall and the CRFT team.

Kelvin Keraga (Writer and director of The Stone Angel)

Kelvin Keraga is an actor, storyteller and writer living in Greenwich, New York. For the last fourteen years he has produced and performed in Whispering Bones, an evening of ghost stories, along with a talented local cast. The show will be touring local venues again this October with a new mix of stories. (Further information at whisperingbones.com.) He has performed stories regionally and for the National Storytelling Network and has served as storytelling coach for Caffé Lena’s Truesongs event. He is the author of a collection of ghost stories, and a one-act play, Echoes, which was performed at Hubbard Hall. His story, “A Light Snow Falling” was a finalist in the Tiferet Journal Fiction Writing Contest. He is very grateful to the many dedicated performers, Hubbard Hall and CRFT staff, and other theater artists who have shared in these explorations. Special thanks to Darcy May for creating the stone angel, and to Siri and Tanya for bringing the stone angel to life. And a very special thanks to his wife Gale for everything she does.

Antoinette Fasino (Elizabeth in Starla)

Antoinette Fasino graduated from Montclair State University with a BFA in acting. They were most recently seen in Home Made Theater’s production of The Humans as Aimee. Antoinette lives in Glens Falls and is a produced playwright in New Jersey and New York.

Since retiring as a high school STEM teacher, he has enjoyed performing for audiences that are not required to attend under threat of in-school detention. He lives in Williamstown, MA with his future improv partner and wife, Rachel.

David Skeele (Writer and director of Starla)

David Skeele moved to the Saratoga area in 2023, having spent the previous thirty years teaching acting and playwriting at Slippery Rock University in Western Pennsylvania. His plays of supernatural horror—such as Starla, The Margins, Dark North, Deepchurch Hollow and The Barwell Prophecy—have all been produced at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland (and in countries as far-flung as Switzerland, Australia and Nigeria). Other original plays include Electra: An American Gothic and an immersive concert/theatre piece entitled Medea In Methland. David is a prolific director, with over fifty productions at SRU under his belt. Locally, he performed in Hamlet (Claudius) and The Humans (Erik) with Home Made Theater and Twelfth Night (Feste) with Hubbard Hall, as well as performing the ghost story The Occupant of the Room with Whispering Bones.
