Fort Salem Theater Kicks Off 2026 Season with Razor-Sharp Comedy “Ripcord”

Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire’s hilarious and heartfelt hit opens March 6

Salem, NY |  Fort Salem Theater launches its highly anticipated 2026 season with “Ripcord,” a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud comedy by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire. Running March 6-15, the production sets the tone for a bold, wide-ranging year of theatre with a story that is as wickedly funny as it is unexpectedly moving.

Set in a senior living facility, “Ripcord” introduces audiences to Abby and Marilyn, two unlikely roommates locked in a battle of wills. What begins as a stubborn standoff quickly escalates into a series of outrageous bets, pranks, and dares that spiral into comic chaos. Beneath the sharp wit and nonstop laughs, the play reveals deeper truths about grief, chosen family, and the resilience required to start over at any age. The result is a crowd-pleasing comedy with a surprisingly powerful emotional punch.

“‘Ripcord’ is fearless, hilarious, and sneaks up on your heartstrings,” said Kyle West, Executive and Artistic Director of Fort Salem Theater. “It is the perfect way to kick off our 2026 season. Audiences will be laughing one minute and genuinely moved the next. With this cast, these performances are absolutely going to sell fast.”

Leading the production is Emmy Award winner Benita Zahn as Abby, appearing courtesy of Actors’ Equity Association, in a return to the Fort Salem stage. Zahn stars opposite local favorite Siri Allison as Marilyn, reuniting after their acclaimed turn in “Agnes of God” in 2024. The cast also features Ryan Canavan (Brad in FST’s “The Rocky Horror Show”) as Benjamin, and three actors who will be making their Fort Salem debut: Tiffany McWilliams as Colleen, Brett Morgan as Derek, and Alex Yun as Scotty.

“Ripcord” is directed by Sarah Murphy, with Jewel Winant serving as Assistant Director. The creative team includes Stage Manager Maureen Cossey, Resident Scenic Designer Charles J.I. Krawczyk, Lighting Designer Courtnie Harrington, Costume Designer Neeley Dessaint, and Producer Kyle West.
