The Ghent Playhouse is seeking a male actor, mid-late 30’s, for the role of Brian in a production of Bess Wohl’s Tony Award-nominated comedy, Grand Horizons, scheduled for early October 2026.
Wohl’s play is a hilarious, heartbreaking commentary on marriage, family, and the wisdom that comes with age… or not. Over a quiet dinner, Bill and Nancy serenely decide to divorce after fifty years of marriage. While Nancy feels liberated and Bill seems unfazed, their adult sons, Brian and Ben, don’t exactly take the news well. As they descend on the Grand Horizons senior living community in an attempt to mediate, everything they thought they knew about their parents comes crashing down.
Bill and Nancy’s youngest son Brian, is a gay high school theater teacher. He is sensitive, emotional, spoiled and needy. He wants to be loved – and seen. He does not believe love lasts, and lacks true intimacy in his own life. He feels betrayed by his family and disrespected by everyone. He doesn’t want anyone to feel disappointed, ever, and desperately wants his family to make it.
The production is scheduled to be presented at the Ghent Playhouse, located at 6 Town Hall Road in Ghent, New York. Performance dates are October 3-5 and 9-11, 2026, with a final dress preview performance on Thursday, October 2, then running Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 and Sunday afternoons at 2:00.
