Penned by the celebrated team that also brought us Once in a Lifetime and The Man Who Came to Dinner, this classic comedy won the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and was adapted into an Academy Award-winning Best Picture the following year.
The story centers on Alice, the only relatively normal member of the wildly eccentric Sycamore family, who falls in love with Tony Kirby. Unfortunately, the match faces fierce opposition from Tony’s snobbish mother and wealthy banker father, culminating in a chaotic dinner party where the two distinctly different families meet.

All roles are open to all types, ethnicities, and genders.
We are unable to change pronouns due to licensing, but we are looking for an all-inclusive cast.
- Martin Vanderhof – The kind and eccentric grandfather and patriarch of the family, who has a long-running feud with the IRS.
- Penelope Vanderhof Sycamore – Martin’s fluttery, gentle, and caring daughter, who enthusiastically writes very bad plays.
- Paul Sycamore – Penny’s mild-mannered husband who is obsessed with building the perfect homemade firework.
- Essie Sycamore Carmichael – The eldest Sycamore daughter who fancies herself a wonderful ballet dancer, but she isn’t.
- Ed Carmichael – Essie’s husband, who is an amateur printer and an expert on the xylophone.
- Alice Sycamore – The younger Sycamore daughter and the “normal” one, who remains deeply devoted to her family.
- Tony Kirby – Alice’s fiancé, a young executive who finds the eccentricities of the Sycamore clan refreshing.
- Anthony W. Kirby Sr. – Tony’s father and Alice’s boss, who deeply disapproves of their relationship and of Alice’s family.
- Miriam Kirby – Tony’s upper-class, stiff mother, who is just as disapproving as her husband.
- Mr. De Pinna – Paul’s best friend and co-conspirator, a former deliveryman who lives with the Sycamores and is quite an odd duck.
- Rheba – The Sycamores’ maid who understands the family better than anyone.
- Donald Curry – Rheba’s longtime boyfriend who spends most of his free time at the Sycamore house.
- Boris Kolenkhov – Essie’s teacher, a hearty, explosive Russian ballet master.
- Gay Wellington – An endearing but past-her-prime actress spends all of her stage time exuberantly drunk or passed out. Doubles as The Grand Duchess Olga Katrina, who, having been a pre-revolution member of the Russian royal family, now works as a waitress.
- Wilbur Henderson – An IRS agent who goes to war with Martin. Doubles as “The Man”, the head agent who comes to investigate Ed because of the communist things he prints up.
Additionally, we will also be casting two male-presenting actors to play the other two G-Men (Jim and Mac), who will also assist behind the scenes.
