Home Made Theater is proud to bring the Tony Award-winning musical 1776, with music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and a book by Peter Stone, to the stage this summer, with performances running July 18 through July 27 at the historic Anthony “Skip” Scirocco Music Hall, on the third floor of City Hall.
In the days leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence, tempers flare, alliances shift, and history is made. 1776 takes audiences inside the debates, doubt, and determination of the Second Continental Congress as John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and their fellow delegates wrestle with the monumental task of creating a new nation.
With a brilliant score, stirring drama, and surprising wit, 1776 breathes new life into the founding of America. This timely revival reminds us that democracy has always been hard-won and that real change starts with courageous voices.
“This show is more than just a history lesson,” says director Mike Gatzendorfer. “It’s a reminder of how messy, human, and hopeful the founding of this country really was. These characters aren’t just icons; they’re people grappling with complex issues that still resonate today.”
Assisting Mr. Gatzendorfer are Musical Director Alison Jansen and Choreographer Kelly Sienkiewicz (who also plays the role of Martha Jefferson). The rest of the production team includes Production Stage Manager Caitlin Wickes, Scenic Designer Dianne O’Neill, Lighting Designer Katherine MacLellan, Costume Designer Angela DeMeritt, Wig and Hair Designer John Fowler, Sound Designer Tom Moeller, Props Designer Maura Pickett, and Producer Christine MacLellan.
The cast of 1776 will feature a dynamic group of 25 local performers, some familiar to Home Made Theater audiences, and some fresh faces.
Performances are weekends from July 18th until July 27th with Friday and Saturday shows starting at 7:00pm and Sunday shows starting at 2:00pm. General admission tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for students, and free for children five and under, and can be purchased on Home Made Theater’s website, www.HomeMadeTheater.org.
