Hudson, N.Y.— On Saturday, November 2nd at 7 p.m., Hudson Hall presents “No Cowards in our Band,” a musical drama telling the story of Frederick Douglass.
Set against the backdrop of post-Reconstruction America, Douglass is portrayed considering the social, economic, and political ramifications of slavery and the Civil War and their impact on the future of the United States.
Based on a libretto by Anthony Knight, Jr. and interwoven with spiritual songs arranged by GRAMMY-nominated jazz artist Orrin Evans, “No Cowards in Our Band” stars actor, artist, and TV personality Masud Olufani as Frederick Douglass performing with a trio of opera singers: Nia Drummond, soprano, who went viral last year for a rendition of Happy Birthday that made Busta Rhymes cry; Metropolitan Opera tenor Edward Washington II, and Opera Ebony’s Gregory Sheppard.
The performance is on Saturday, November 2nd at 7 p.m. at Hudson Hall at the historic Hudson Opera House, located at 327 Warren Street in Hudson. Tickets and more information can be found online.
