We’ve had an embarrassment of riches with so many great shows happening all over the region, all deserving their own praise, but here are a few standouts that stuck with me:
The Humans – Home Made Theater
There’s something about the familiar awkwardness of The Humans still makes me shift uncomfortably in my seat. I think it reminds me of unhappier times with my own family, and the experience of being at odds with the ones you care for the most that makes everything just feel wrong.
Becoming Dr. Ruth – Curtain Call Theatre
An impressive one-woman show with a story worth telling right now, both because of the real Dr. Ruth’s passing earlier this year, and because of the political climate we all find ourselves in.
The Squirrels – Harbinger Theatre at Sand Lake Center for the Arts
Like a bite from an angry rodent, this show really left a mark. It was funny, inventive, and unique in so many ways. Easily my favorite of the year.
