Tangent announces reading of the powerful drama “Annapurna” at the popular arthouse in Millerton; veteran cast leads two character piece
Tivoli, NY, September 10, 2025 – Tangent Theatre Company, based in Tivoli NY, has presented a record number of pop-up play readings over the past year, with their next performance a presentation of a modern drama: ANNAPURNA by Sharr White, to be held Saturday, September 27, 2025 in the premier Theater 3 at The Moviehouse in Millerton, NY at 7pm, doors open 6pm; wine, beer and light snacks available in the stylish upstairs lounge. Tickets are $10 via online purchase, with donations to Tangent also accepted.
Set in a remote trailer park, an estranged couple reconnects in this bittersweet story of love, loss and a final reckoning. Annapurna received its world premiere at the Magic Theatre in San Francisco, its Los Angeles premiere at the Odyssey Theatre in 2013 and its New York City off-Broadway premiere in 2014, the latter two productions starring real-life couple Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman.
The reading will feature Tangent’s premier cast of Maggie Adams McDowell and Tangent’s Artistic Director Michael Rhodes (both members of Actors’ Equity Association). Actor and voice-over artist Steven Young will read stage directions; Tracy Carney directs; produced by Andrea Rhodes.

Tangent’s readings have become a popular series in Tivoli and beyond, often presented in pubs, restaurants or unique intimate spaces – including the Stissing Center in Pine Plains, Upstate Films in Rhinebeck and Tivoli’s Village Hall; Tangent last appeared at The Moviehouse for their reading of God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza in December of last year. Actors read the plays with scripts in hand, and no props, miming or blocking; stage directions are read to orient the audience, move the story along and help visualize the play. Tangent’s readings over the past few years have all enjoyed sold out shows.
The Moviehouse offers an artsy, intimate setting for this moving story, and a way to bring arts enthusiasts together for unique theater: “We are big fans of The Moviehouse and we already know it will be an ideal environment for us, we had an excellent time there last year. The space is intimate yet roomy, so we wanted to present another Tangent-like experience. Annapurna grabs you and it is the perfect Tangent play” says Michael Rhodes. The theater’s General Manager Jeremy Boviard adds “The Moviehouse is always striving to offer our community an ever-expanding variety of programming. Partnering with Tangent again presents an exciting opportunity to continue showcasing the type of live performances we actively seek to cultivate.”
Annapurna by Sharr White, play reading Saturday Sept. 27, 2025 @ 7pm, in Theater 3 @ The Moviehouse, 48 Main Street, Millerton NY (doors 6pm); Tickets @ $10 can be purchased online; seating is general admission: bit.ly/AnnapurnaMoviehouseTickets. Theater accessible via stairs or elevator.
