The Hoosic Valley High School Drama Club is bringing new energy to the Tony Award-winning musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. This laugh-out-loud spectacle, rated PG, follows the stories of some quirky middle school kids who eat, sleep, and breathe spelling words.
The HVHS Drama Club production features a cast and crew of over 60 students in grades 7-12, and they exemplify how much a small school’s drama program can achieve. The students are supported by a team of faculty, parent, and community volunteers, as well as returning alumni who have graduated from cast members to the production team.
In a society where sports often take precedence over the arts, this program proves why that needs to change, and it sets the standard for what a small but tenacious community can create together. The program works to make every student and volunteer feel valued. Students are at the center of every aspect of the production, including a student-run sound and lighting crew. Not to mention, this show features an incredible, scratch-made, over-the-top set that transforms for each scene, 8 elaborately choreographed numbers, phenomenal vocal talent, laugh-out-loud comedy, and much more. This show is not to be missed!
Performances are February 6 at 7:00, and February 7 at 1:00 and 7:00, at the Hoosic Valley Elementary School Auditorium, 22 Pleasant Ave, Schaghticoke, NY, 12154.
