WEDDING BAND: A Love/Hate Story in Black and White by Alice Childress is a powerful and deeply human drama set in 1918 South Carolina during the influenza pandemic.

Performances: June 4th-14th @ theREP, 251 N. Pearl St., Albany, NY 12207.

The story centers on Julia, a Black seamstress, and Herman, a white German-American baker, who have sustained a secret interracial relationship for ten years in a world governed by anti-miscegenation laws and violent racism. The play explores love, survival, race, class, and the painful realities of societal judgment—from both white and Black communities.

This production seeks actors who are emotionally available, grounded in truth, and committed to bold, intimate storytelling.
