Steamer No. 10 Theatre and the production team are committed to building a diverse, authentic cast. Artists of any gender identity, ethnicity, and neurodiversity are encouraged to audition! This production is only casting artists 18 years of age and older.

Street parking is available on Western and Madison, please do not park in the spots marked off for police vehicles.  You may park within the Citizens Bank parking lot (Western Ave) after bank business hours, but please take care to avoid handicap/unauthorized spaces with signage.

AUDITION DATE/TIME

Sunday, March 29 and Monday, March 30th, 2026

at 7:00 pm.

AUDITION DETAILS

Sign-in will begin at 6:30 p.m. Auditions will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Callbacks will be held by invite only, split between Tuesday, March 31st, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, April 1st, 2026 at 7:00pm.

Artists need to only attend one audition session, though may be asked to attend both callback sessions.

WHAT TO PREPARE

Please come prepared with approximately one minute of music you feel shows off your unique talents and bring accompanying sheet music. Music in the style of the show is preferred, but not mandatory.

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing as well as secure shoes and/or dance shoes, as there will be a dance call at these open call auditions.

If you are not able to attend the audition dates/times but would still like to be considered for a role, please submit an audition form and a video audition (singing approximately one minute of music that showcases your voice) to eleahjayne@steamer10theatre.org no later than March 30th at 9:00 pm.  

Audition forms can be filled out prior to or at the audition.

Fridays and Saturdays at 7:00 pm,

1st Sunday at 3:00 pm

2nd Sunday at 5:00 pm**

REHEARSAL INFORMATION

Rehearsals will be held primarily Monday/Wednesday/Friday evenings & Sunday afternoons beginning in April.  

A read-thru will be held on Friday, April 3rd at 7:00 p.m. at the theater.

A cast photo and promo shoot day will be scheduled based on cast and crew availability.

Attendance is mandatory for Tech Sunday (May 31, 2025), Tech Week rehearsals June 1, 2, 3 and 4, 2026 (dark night TBD) and for all performances.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Principal Characters

Roxie Hart (Mezzo-Soprano, F3-B4): A housewife who kills her lover and manipulates the media to become a celebrity, seeking fame and acquittal.

Velma Kelly (Alto, E3-D5): A vaudeville star turned double-murderess who fights to keep the spotlight on her case.

Billy Flynn (Baritone, Bb2-G4): A cunning, highly paid lawyer who has never lost a case, specializing in turning criminals into media stars.

Matron “Mama” Morton (Alto): The shrewd, business-savvy, corrupt keeper of the keys at the jail.

Amos Hart (Baritone, C3-F#4): Roxie’s loyal, gullible husband who is ignored and ultimately left behind.

Mary Sunshine (Soprano, Bb3-Bb5): A tabloid columnist who champions the criminals; often played by a countertenor or in drag.

Supporting & Featured Roles

Fred Casely (Male): The lover Roxie murders.

Sergeant Fogarty (Male): The officer who investigates Fred’s death.

Liz, Annie, June, Hunyak (Katalin Helinszki), Mona (Female, Ensemble): The “Merry Murderesses” of Cook County Jail.

Go-To-Hell-Kitty (Female): A young socialite who murders her husband.

Ensemble Roles

Chicago ensemble members must be strong, versatile triple threat performers.

Court Clerk, Judge, Reporter, Tailor, Foreman (Ensemble): Various roles played by the company.
