PITTSFIELD MA – Whitney Center for the Arts announces its dynamic 2019 summer season.
In keeping with the Whit’s tradition to present opera, the season opens with Mezzo Soprano Julie Rumbold in The Human Voice or La voix humaine by Francis Poulenc, a sensuous and devastating one-woman opera sung in English with Nathaniel Baker on Piano running June 28th through June 30th.
Next up is New York City’s 92Y Favorite Harvey Granat, Live in Concert. Harvey Granat makes the American songbook come to life for one-night only at the Whit on Monday, July 1st at 8pm.
Working with local actor and Whit favorite, Brittany Nicholson, Monica Bliss will direct Dael Orlandersmith’s powerful one-woman play, Until the Flood. Until the Flood explores the social unrest in Ferguson, Missouri following the shooting of teenager, Michael Brown. Until the Flood runs July 12th through July 21st.
In August, the Whit is pleased to present Discontent, a new work by Whit favorite, Caroline Fairweather, which will be produced by Ghostlit Repertory Theatre Company. Please check www.thewhit.org for dates and times.
In September, director Jackie Degiorgis takes on Orion, a beautiful play by Matthew McLachlan which examines those love relationships that end, but never really leave us. Orion runs September 13th through September 22nd.
