GREENFIELD, MA — The LAVA Center is proud to present our third annual festival of new play readings by (mostly) local playwrights, “On the Boards.”

This year’s festival will include new and developmental works by ten Massachusetts-based playwrights and five LAVA friends from further afield.

Get a glimpse into the process of making theater, in this festival of readings of new works in several stages of development.

On Fridays and Saturdays in June, there will be readings of plays that will culminate in a talkback session with the playwright. We welcome our audience to be part of the playwriting process by offering helpful, targeted feedback.

The festival kicks off on Friday–Saturday, June 6–7, with “The Plan,” written by Patricia Crosby and directed by Tracy Grammer and “Narrow House: Dreams to Let,” written by Konrad Rogowski, directed by Charlene Kennedy.

“The Plan” was written by PH Crosby, is directed by Tracy Grammer and is performed by Kendra Corrie, Katie Hertel, Ashley Kramer, Priscilla Mollard and Maya Quinones. Five sisters come together after their mother’s death, ostensibly to make decisions about the family home and her belongings. But we see deeper and larger forces at work as their situations emerge.

“Narrow House: Dreams to Let” was written by Konrad Rogowski, is directed by Charlene Kennedy and is performed by Jeremy Ebersole, Joanne Graves, Justin (Ryn) Griffin, Nathan Haugh, Elizabeth LaPrade, Brandon Williams and Nicole Winot. The fragments of a 1938 radio broadcast and the unexpected arrival of a pregnant young woman throw the lives of the five tenants of Narrow House into chaos.

Plays take place at The LAVA Center, 324 Main St., Greenfield. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and start at 7 p.m. Tickets are on a sliding scale of $8–35, with a $2 option for Card to Culture participants. The plays will also be viewable online, on demand for one month. Advance tickets can be purchased at https://www.tixtree.com/o/lava
