November 26-December 12
[GHENT, NY] – After being shuttered for more than 11 months, The Ghent Playhouse is delighted to kick off its 2021-2022 season with a new take on the annual Panto production. “Rapunzel: The Tale of a Quaran-teen” is a zany twist of the classic story, written, acted, produced and directed by the always hilarious Pantaloons. The show runs November 26-December 12 and tickets are on sale now at GhentPlayhouse.org.
“Our family-friendly productions have all the elements of a traditional British pantomime: audience participation (booing, hissing, cheering), local and national politics, great characters, wonderful songs and lots of cross-dressing,” explained writer, director, actor and Artistic Director Cathy Lee-Visscher. “This year we turn the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale on its head. Rapunzel is the story of the girl all “tressed” up with nowhere to go… ‘cause she’s stuck in a tower with no doors, silly! Join us to see how it all turns out.”

“Rapunzel: The Tale of a Quaran-teen” marks the 21st anniversary of the Pantoloons. Founded by Judy Staber, the group originally performed at The Spencertown Academy, before moving to the Ghent Playhouse. “The Panto has become a local tradition for many people in the community,” Lee-Visscher said.
The cast includes Sam Reilly (Rapunzel), Cathy Lee-Visscher (Witch), Mark Wilson (Baker), Monk Schane-Lydon (Baker’s Wife), Emily Spateholts (Repugnant), Nellie Rustick (Prince Leopold), Joanne Maurer (Dr. Bony Ouchi) and Catherine Schane-Lydon (Narrator/Bartender).
“Rapunzel: The Tale of a Quaran-teen” at the Ghent Playhouse runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 26-December 12. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30pm, while Sunday matinees begin at 2:00pm. Tickets can be purchased online only at GhentPlayhouse.org. $23 for members, $28 for nonmembers, and $12 for students, with no additional processing fees.
