Synopsis
They’re Playing Our Song is a funny, roman-c show about an established composer and his rela-onship with an aspiring young female lyricist, not unlike Carole Bayer Sager. Professionally, their rela-onship works beau-fully, but personally they hit a few bumps; romance blossoms, conflict rears its head, and comic sparks fly.
Character Breakdown – Roles are open to all ethnicities and gender identity
Sonia Walsk: (mezzo) An up and coming lyricist, excited to be working with the established Vernon. Not eccentric – thrity; she dresses in costumes worn in various productions of plays and musicals which look like a cross between Annie Hall and a stereotyped Gypsy tea reader. Fresh out of her relationship of five years with Leon, sort of.

Vernon Gersch: (high baritone/tenor) A well established, well off composer of pop music. He is neurotic but charming. He keeps his journal on a portable tape recorder. Despite his best efforts, he is completely swept away by Sonia.
Sonia’s and Vernon’s Voices: Both characters have “voices” that act as a Greek chorus. They represent Ego, Passion, and Skep-cism, and comment on the ac-on as well as interact with their counterparts: hers with her, his with him. Sonia’s voices are alto/soprano. Vernon’s voices are baritone/tenor. All must be able to harmonize.
