“The Cake” Opens Friday, May 13 
at Schenectady Civic Players. 

Schenectady — The third Main Stage production of the Schenectady Civic Players’ 94th Season, “The Cake” by Bekah Brunstetter and directed by Sara Paupini, opens Friday, May 13, and plays through
Sunday, May 22 at its 12 South Church Street Playhouse in Schenectady’s Historic Stockade District. 

Synopsis: Della makes cakes, not judgement calls.  Those she leaves to her husband, Tim. But when the girl she helped raise comes back home to North Carolina to get married, and the fiance is actually a fiancee, Della’s life gets turned upside down. She can’t really make a cake for such a wedding, can she?  For the first time in her life, Della must think for herself.

Premiering Off- Broadway in 2019, “The Cake” has been called “An emotionally and deliciously funny play.” Brunstetter, its creator, is a writer producer of NBC’s “This Is Us” television series.   

The Civic Players cast features Josephine O’Connor (as Della), David Orr (as Tim), Monet Thompson (as Macy), and Elizabeth Sherwood Mack (as Jen).

“The Cake” runs Friday, Saturday And Sunday (May 13, 14, 15) and Wednesday through Sunday (May18 through 22).  Friday and Saturday curtains are at 8 pm, Wednesday and Thursday curtains are at
7:30 pm, and Sundays are matinees only at 2:30 pm. Proof of vaccination and masks required at all performances.
