The evening will continue with dinner and dancing into the night.

Gala 2022: Bon Voyage, Julie! celebrates BSC’s Education and Community Engagement Fund. BSC’s award-winning education programming gives area youth an outlet to express themselves, develop conflict resolution skills and create a supportive community. BSC’s Community Engagement works to give the local community a place to gather and express their creativity, while making BSC’s artistic programming accessible and relevant. Paddles Up at the Gala will raise funds in support of BSC’s Education and Community Engagement programming.

Julie has always had a passion for education. Julie was a teacher before pursuing theatre as a career and always believed in the healing and inspiring power of theatre, especially in the lives of young people. Her ultimate dream was to create a theatre education program for the youth in Berkshire County and thus, the Playwright Mentoring Project (PMP) was born 22 years ago. But Julie didn’t stop there. BSC’s Education Department also holds the Musical Theatre Conservatory and the Professional Internship Program, which both allow up-and-coming theatre artists and administrators to hone their skills and gain invaluable experience at one of the country’s top regional theatres.

Julie believes in the importance of community and helping raise the voice of those who do not have opportunity and privilege to express their point of view. Under her leadership, BSC has produced numerous works that have brought the stories of marginalized communities to the forefront including A Crossing and America v. 2.1: The Sad Demise & Eventual Extinction of The American Negro. In response to the Black Lives Matter movement, BSC created Black Voices Matter to deepen its relationship with the Black community in Berkshire County. The initiative’s purpose is to support and encourage Black community members by giving a platform for Black creativity and self-expression, which culminates in the annual Celebration of Black Voices Festival in August.
