“FIREFLIES”

·       Curtain Call Theatre – 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane, Latham, NY 12110 

Rehearsals:

·       Begin late January 2023

·       Generally held on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings

Performances:

·       March 2-19, 2023

·       Thursday at 7:30 PM, Friday and Saturday at 8:00 PM, & Sunday at 3:00 PM 

·       One Saturday matinee at 3:00 PM on March 4, 2023.

Show Description:

The title may be familiar, but this play is adapted from the novel Eleanor and Abel by Annette Sanford. A charming love story about late-life romance. Fireflies centers around retired schoolteacher, Eleanor Bannister, who lives a quiet life alone in tiny Groverdell, Texas, set in her routines and secure in her position as the town’s most respected woman — until a hole in her roof draws the attention of Abel Brown, a smooth-talking drifter intent on renovating Eleanor’s house, and possibly her life. Can the unexpected sparks of late-life romance be trusted, or is there truth in the gossip that Abel isn’t all that he seems to be? Either way, the whole town is talking.

Available Roles:

Eleanor Bannister / Female Identifying / Age mid 60’s

A retired schoolteacher and spinster. Dignified, proper. Respected in the community and set in her ways. This character is on stage the entire play.

Abel Brown / Male Identifying / Age mid 60’s

A traveling handyman. An effortlessly attractive, self-possessed, charming, and slightly mysterious man.

Grace Bodell / Female Identifying / Age mid 60’s

Miss Bannister’s neighbor and best friend. A busybody, bit of a gossip, casual but polished, with no pretense.

Eugene Claymire / Male Identifying / Age 30-40’s

A town police officer. A former student of Miss Bannister’s who as a boy was never considered by her to likely amount to anything.
