The Ghent Playhouse seeking two male actors and one female actor, aged early 20’s to early 30’s, for our production of Arthur Laurents’ dramedy, INVITATION TO A MARCH, scheduled for February 2023.

Set in the early 1960’s, this delightful, imaginative, and sharp-witted dramedy deals largely with the conflict between summer visitors to the south shore of Long Island, and two permanent residents who become entangled in their lives. The visitors – rich, sophisticated, conventional – have come for the wedding of a lovely young girl and a highly eligible young man. There is, however, one deterrent to this eminently suitable alliance. The bride-to-be keeps falling asleep, especially on those occasions when her intended discusses their secure and predictable future. During one of these “naps,” another young man – poor, unambitious and unshackled – kisses the girl and wakes her up with a vengeance, unleashing a battle between his mother and the mothers of the prospective bride and groom.

This critically acclaimed play has fairy tale elements, doses of comedy and a fair amount of drama. It also marked the first time prolific music composer, Steven Sondheim’s work was heard on the Broadway stage.

We are looking for strong actors who will bring out the humor of the play, as well as the tension and conflict. Those younger, who feel they can look and play older, or older, who feel they can look and play younger, are strongly encouraged to audition for the following roles:

NORMA BROWN (mid-late 20’s) – Daughter of Lily Brown. A narcoleptic bride-to-be, engaged to Schuyler Grogan, scion of a wealthy local family. She is a proper young society girl: obedient, quiet, malleable and undemanding.

SCHUYLER GROGAN (mid 20’s to early 30’s) – Son of Tucker and Deedee Grogan, engaged to be married to Norma Brown. A very handsome, but boring young lawyer.

AARON JABLONSKI (mid-mid 20’s) – Son of Camilla Jablonski. A very handsome, ne’er-do- well handyman. He is uncouth and very outspoken.

February 3 through 19, 2023 – Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2:00 p.m., with a preview performance on Thursday, February 2 at 7:30p.m.

Those interested, are requested to contact the director, J. Peter Bergman directly, by phone or text at (413) 822-7384 or by email at to schedule an audition. For further information about the production, please visit the Ghent Playhouse website at
