Fort Salem Theater will hold auditions for Footloose and The Pirates of Penzance on Friday, April 14th from 7PM-10PM. Callbacks will be held by invitation only as needed, tentatively scheduled for Sunday, April 16 from 12-5. Performers are asked to prepare approximately 1 minute of any Broadway or pop uptempo song that best showcases your voice. All roles are open to actors of all ethnicities and gender identities. Seeking performers ages teen through young adult. If you are unable to attend auditions, please submit your audition video as soon as possible to Kyle@FortSalem.com.
Rehearsals for Footloose will begin Monday, May 15, 2023 – Rehearsal for Pirates of Penzance will begin on Monday, July 3, 2023 and will typically be held Sundays from 6PM-10PM, Monday-Thursday from 7PM-10PM and occasional Saturday mornings, pending the availability of the cast and the needs of the show. However, the actual schedule will be determined by the cast and director’s availability. A full calendar will be provided by the first rehearsal. Each actor will receive a minimum of two complimentary tickets. Actors who participate in 2023 productions will also received a free 12-month invitation to opening weekends for all MainStage productions. At this time, housing, travel & performance stipends are not available.

Ren McCormack (Male presenting) – A teenage boy from Chicago. Fun, quick-witted and loves to dance, out-going personality. Needs to be a strong actor, singer, and dancer. (tenor)
Ariel Moore (Female presenting) – Rebellious daughter of Reverend Moore. Needs to be a strong actor, singer, and dancer. (mezzo)
Chuck Cranston (Male presenting) – Ariel’s “bad boy” boyfriend. Needs to be a strong singer and actor. (tenor)
Willard Hewitt (Male presenting) – A true country boy. Big tempered, loves his mama. Befriends Ren’s. Needs to be a strong actor, singer, and dancer. (baritone/tenor)
Rusty (Female presenting) – Ariel’s best friend. Eventually falls for Willard. Needs to be a strong actor, singer, and dancer. (mezzo)

A “modern major” comedy, Pirates of Penzance is the hilariously famous operetta by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, jam-packed with dutiful daughters, cowering constables, and softhearted swashbucklers, as well as a young pirate apprentice named Frederic approaching his 21st birthday and seeking out love and adventure – with many side steps along the way!

Mabel (Female presenting) Daughter of the Major-General. Mabel is a classic beauty similar to Lillian Gish or Mary Pickford. An astute young woman, she is sympathetic in nature. She and Frederic fall in love. Stage Age: 18 to 21. Vocal range top: Db6. Vocal range bottom: Bb3
Pirate King (Male presenting) The leader of the pirates. Despite his sharp and loud bark, he is actually a whole-hearted romantic with a soft bite. A handsome man typically found with an open shirt and wind in his hair. Stage Age: Adult Vocal range top: F4 Vocal range bottom: A#2
Major General (Male presenting) A father with many daughters. He resembles a male Queen Victoria in his sensibilities. Possesses kindness, warmth, and good-humor. The love for his daughters is undeniable. Stage Age: Adult. Vocal range top: E4. Vocal range bottom: Bb2
Ruth (Female presenting) Frederic’s lifelong nanny. A sneaky Mrs. Potts, she is attractive enough for her age but cares very little about such things. Kate (Female presenting) Daughter of the Major-General. Quick-witted and rather sassy. She, like her other sisters, is strikingly beautiful. Stage Age: Young adult. Vocal range top: G5 Vocal range bottom: Ab3
Edith (Female presenting) Daughter of the Major-General. Though a level-headed girl, she is quite mischievous. Very beautiful and the eldest of the daughters. Stage age: Young adult. Vocal range top: G5. Vocal range bottom: Ab3
Samuel (Male presenting) The Pirate King’s right-hand man. Perhaps a bit rotund, Samuel is clever but easily manipulated and influenced. Stage age: 21+ Adult. Vocal range top: F4. Vocal range bottom: Bb2
Sergeant (Male presenting) The leader of the police. He is Groucho Marx-esque and uncomfortably clumsy. Though their duty to protect is clear, the Sergeant and his police are more accustomed to fear and hide. Stage Age: Adult. Vocal range top: E4. Vocal range bottom: G2
