GREENFIELD, MA — The LAVA Center is proud to present a staged reading of an adaptation of George Gissing’s novel The Odd Women, adapted by local playwright P. H. Crosby, on Thursday, Apr. 13, 5:30 p.m. This reading will be performed in Readers Theater format.

This 1893 work has the unusual distinction of being a feminist classic by a Victorian male author. George Gissing explores the contradictions and challenges of being a woman in a time when everything was expected of you, everything was changing and everything had to be fought for.

P. H. Crosby has adapted the novel into a full-length drama. The first half was staged last year at the LAVA Center. This year, the performance will be preceded with a synopsis of the first half and a stage reading of the conclusion.

Join us for a fascinating look at first wave feminism in Britain and the ways in which it resonates with the struggles of today. Donations are welcome at the door. Limited seating.

Please note: The LAVA Center requires masks for all patrons. We always have some on hand.
