CAPITAL REGION THEATRE FOLKS: TANYS NEEDS YOU!

The Theatre Association of New York State (TANYS) is seeking new members to fill a few open positions on its Board of Trustees. We’d love to have Board representation from the Capital Region – to join other Board members from Central, Western, Northern and downstate New York.

Q. What experience does a TANYS Board member need?

A. Ideally, we’re looking for people who are (or have recently been) actively involved in their local community or academic theatre… whether onstage, backstage, as a director/producer/designer/technician, or as a Board member. But there’s no minimum number of years – or types – of experience required.

Q. Are there particular skills desired, and/or specific areas where help is needed?

A. We seek theatre-loving folks who are enthusiastic, proactive, well-organized, have an eye for detail, and have a knack for getting things done! We’d especially welcome skills in and/or a desire to help with: grant writing, fundraising, sponsorships, adjudications (scheduling, pre- and post-communications, recordkeeping), and event management (workshops, other events).

Q. What’s the time commitment?

A. TANYS usually holds 4 Board meetings during the year – in person if possible, otherwise virtually on Zoom. In-person Board meetings rotate to different areas of the state to keep travel distances equitable for all. We also expect all Board members to attend our annual Festival in mid-to-late November. The Festival is a weekend event (Friday-Saturday-Sunday) that includes the annual general membership/Board meeting on Sunday. In addition to Board meetings and the Festival, expect to spend 2-10 hours a month on projects or committee work.

Q. I’m interested. What are next steps?

A. Email tanysfest@gmail.com and we’ll put you in touch with our nominations chair, who can give you more information and answer any questions.
