West Springfield, MA (5/15/23) – The first play Producing Director Danny Eaton chose to re-open the long-dormant Majestic Theater in March 1997 was the rock and roll musical Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story.  The show was a hit, the theater began a successful run as a leading performing arts venue, and to honor its 25th full season, Eaton chose Buddy as the Majestic’s spring production.  Eaton recently announced that, due to strong ticket demands, the following performances for Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story have been added to the theater’s schedule:

  • Wednesday, May 31 at 7:00pm
  • Thursday, June 1 at 8:00pm
  • Friday, June 2 at 8:00pm
  • Sunday, Jun 4 at 2:00pm

Buddy has been, hands down, the most popular play we’ve presented at the Majestic since we opened,” stated Eaton.  “It’s really a special musical for so many reasons.  Buddy Holly is one of the most important figures in the early days of rock and roll, and while his songs have been performed and shared through the years, his story isn’t all that well known.  Buddy was one of the first rockers to write and produce his own songs, in addition to playing all the instruments along with his band, The Crickets.”

The musical features most of Holly’s biggest hits including “That’ll Be the Day,” “Rave On,” “Oh Boy” and “Peggy Sue,” among others.   Ticket prices range from $31 – $37 and can be obtained by visiting or calling the box office at (413) 747-7797 during hours of operation (Monday-Friday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.)

Cast members include Dan Whelton in the title role, Caleb Koval, Shaun O’Keefe, Tina Sparkle, Josh Karam, Jacob Nichols, Chelsea Nectow, Josh Mason, Steve Henderson and Brad Shepard.  Eaton is the play’s director, and Sue Dziura is associate producing director.

Effective March 2023, audience members are encouraged to wear face masks, but they are no longer required at the Majestic.  Doors to the theater will open one hour before the start of a show, which is also when the café opens.  For more information, visit www.majestictheater.com
