NON-UNION CASTING CALL:

The Black Theatre Troupe Of Upstate New York is holding auditions for our production of SKELETON CREW by Dominique Morisseau. Directed by Hettie Barnhill. Performances: October 19-29, 2023.

AUDITIONS

OPEN CALL, IN PERSON:

Wednesday, August 2nd, 6 – 9 pm

What To Bring / Prepare / Expect:- If possible, please bring a picture and resume stapled together. (Not required.)- Prepared monologues are encouraged and appreciated, but not required. If you are doing a monologue, monologues should be in the style of the play. Monologues can be from the play itself, but do not have to be. Monologues should not exceed one minute in length.- Everyone will be provided with sides from the play to read during the audition. – Please be prepared to share your availability for rehearsals (August 19th-October 18th: evenings, weekends).

VIDEO SUBMISSION: For actors who are unable to come to the open call, please email the following by Wednesday, August 2nd at 9 pm (deadline).- A picture and resume (if possible) and video with an introduction and an audition monologue.- All introductions should include your name, union status, location and the role you are auditioning for. Please also let us know if you have any experience with movement/singing. (For example: Hello, my name is Jane Brown, I am Non-Union and located in Clifton Park, and I am auditioning for the role of Faye. I am comfortable singing and dancing, but I don’t have any formal training.)- Please follow the introduction with a monologue of your choice.Monologues should be in the style of the play. Monologues can be from the play itself, but do not have to be. CALLBACKS (IN-PERSON ONLY) – Actors will be provided with sides from the play by the creative team to read during the audition. – Callbacks will be held in person only.

ROLE DESCRIPTIONS:

FAYE – black, mid to late fifties, working-class woman. Tough, a lifetime of dirt beneath her nails. Somewhere, deep compassion. Female-presenting.

DEZ – black, mid to late twenties, working-class man. Young hustler, playful, street-savvy, flirtatious. Somewhere, deeply sensitive. Male-presenting.

SHANITA – black, mid to late twenties, working-class young woman. Pretty but not ruled by it. Hardworking, by-the-book. Believes in the work she does. Also, pregnant. Somewhere, a beautiful dreamer. Female-presenting.

REGGIE – black, late thirties, white-collar man. The foreman. Studious, dedicated, compassionate. Somewhere, a fire brims. Male-presenting.

PERFORMER – BIPOC, dance experience a plus! All ages, any gender. This role/s embodies the space, emotions and machinery that centers in the world of this work.Understudy roles available. All are welcome. No experience necessary – just an open mind and availability for rehearsals/performances.
