PIC Mini-Residencies are short developmental intensives designed to help a writer move their work to its next stage. Typically structured as 2-4 rehearsal sessions, culminating in a staged reading, each mini-residency is built around the needs of the writer.
What’s missing from our upcoming public reading of Old Stupid Village by Elizabeth Irwin? You! Be a part of the development of this brand new play by joining us for the final Mini Residency reading of the year and sticking around for a dialogue with the playwright. We are thrilled to be in collaboration with UMass Amherst Department of Theater for this project, and we hope you will join us on their campus for this thought-provoking and supremely funny piece.
For this mini-residency PIC will host playwright Elizabeth Irwin and her work-in-progress, Old Stupid Village, for 4 consecutive rehearsals culminating in a public staged reading. She will be joined by a full cast, director Elisa Gonzales, as well as Stage Manager Leigh Rohe. The team will work together to help Elizabeth fine-tune her script, and the culminating reading will also include a developmental conversation with the audience.
A Summary of Old Stupid Village
When Jordan, a biracial member of the cleaning staff at a historical re-enactment village in central Massachusetts tries to get transferred to the “costumed historic department” and is denied due to “lack of fit” she starts to investigate how accurate the history being preserved actually is and decides to call bullshit.
