At the Holiday Inn Resort Lake George through October 14th
Lake George, Oct 10 2023 – Following Lake George Dinner Theatre’s sell-out run of Shear Madness at the Holiday Inn Resort Lake George this summer, we look forward to continuing our season of madness, murder, & mayhem with the regional premiere of Nick Hall’s hilarious dark comedy Marriage is Murder.
Ex-spouses Paul and Polly Butler used to write murder mysteries together. Since their divorce 18 months ago, Polly has become a successful screenwriter while Paul has floundered, trying to write his autobiography. When Hollywood comes calling, offering a lot of money for a new script to feature a beloved detective character they created together, Paul and Polly must reluctantly collaborate once again, since they both own the rights.
As former writing partners, their creative process had always involved them “acting out” each murder scenario in order to make it as realistic as possible. Now, from poisoned chocolates to lethal martinis, neither of them is sure if they are still “acting”- or if one of them (or both) are in real danger! Paul and Polly attempt to outdo each other, while fast-paced comic twists abound as the play heads for its surprising, yet inevitable conclusion.
Director Jarel Davidow says, “I first read “Marriage is Murder” a few years ago during the pandemic and instantly thought it would be a great show for our audiences. Not only is it an absolutely hilarious comedy, but it also operates as a thriller that takes many unpredictable twists and turns. I also thought it had a lot to say about love and marriage. Producing the show this season as a companion piece to Shear Madness was just such a perfect combination. I am so excited to bring this show to the North Country!”
Michael Irvin Pollard plays “Paul Butler”, making his Lake George Dinner Theatre debut. Most recently Michael was seen in By the Light at NYC’s United Solo Festival, garnering the “Best Storyteller” award, and before that in New Jersey Repertory’s production of The Hummingbirds and Daybreak at Pan Asian Rep. Brenny Campbell is welcomed back to the LGDT stage as “Polly Butler”, last performing in our 2009 production of Old Love. She’s worked with many other regional professional companies, such as the Adirondack Theatre Festival (The Whale), Capital Repertory Theatre (Blithe Spirit, Other Desert Cities), and Saratoga Shakespeare (The Winter’s Tale.)
