The Galway Players announce auditions for their Spring 2024 production, T.E. Breitenbach’s LITTLE BLACK BOXES, to be directed by Ryan McMahon.    

PERFORMANCE DATES: 

Saturday May 4, 2024 7:00 pm

Sunday May 5, 2024 2:00 pm 

  • Auditions, rehearsals, and performances will take place in the Galway High School Auditorium, 5317 Sacandaga Road, Galway NY.  Auditions are on Sunday January 21, with check in beginning at 12:30 pm. Auditions will begin at 1:00 pm and are expected to last 2-3 hours at the most. If you are unable to audition in person on this day/time, please reach out to the director Ryan McMahon via email at rmcmahonnyc@gmail.com to make other arrangements.

  • Audition information with items to prepare and a registration form will be available on the Galway Players website beginning December 26, 2023.
  • Rehearsals will occur on Sundays from 1pm-5pm beginning Sunday January 28 (exception – Saturday of Easter weekend.) For the first 6 weeks not all cast will be called to every rehearsal.
  • The performances will be professionally filmed for distribution to Public Television.

ROLES IN ORDER OF APPEARANCE

We have parts for actors of all ages from 10 and up. Those interested in auditioning, who may be younger or older than the ages listed on the roles but feel they could play the role effectively are strongly urged to audition. Unmarked characters can be any age.


CAT BURGLAR
 (age 30-45)
 – Slimy, dishonest, thin. (Yes, he steals cats!  He also plays the part of Todd, below.

MAGGIE (to play mid 30’s) – Soprano. Attractive, outgoing. Fortune teller in gypsy costume. In town for Cynthia’s wedding, meets her past love Michael.

CONSTABLE MICHAEL MULDOON (mid 30’s) – Tenor. Tall, shy, tries to appear tough, but big-hearted inside, dry-humor, Momma’s boy.

OLD MR. PARKER (65-80’s) – Comical, nosey, walks hunched over a cane, watches the ladies.

CYNTHIA GREEN (mid 30’s) – Soprano. Innocent, attentive to her children. She is trying to find a new father for them, as theirs was lost.

CHRISTOPHER (11-16) – Her son. Good kid, 11-15 yrs., fights with sister.

ANGELA (10-14) – Soprano. Christopher’s younger sister.

BOXMAN (30-45) – Tenor. Mysterious, dramatic, caring, wise.

MABEL & SPOUSE – Villagers.

JOHN WILLIAMS (30-45) – Handsome, kind, generous. In town to run the Cat Show Contest. Destined to marry Cynthia.

MRS. HELEN MAYOR – Opinionated, heavy-set, strong voice. Hiding secrets.

JANITOR, CLERK, PLUMBER – Can be females.

TODD GREELY – Slimy, dishonest, thin. Initially engaged to Cynthia. (He is also the Cat Burglar.)

RONNIE (10-14) – Todd’s son, a troubled boy.

MARY WINKLE (65-80’s) – An old homeless women. Once a dignified lady.

MULDOON’S MOTHER (50-65) – Irish accent. Wants to see her son married. She pressures her shy son to ask his old flame Maggie out, while she is in town.

MRS. & BERT PETERSON – She is nagging, nonstop chatter. He is henpecked.  (Both can double as Cat Show judges.)

2 SILLY LADS (teens to 20’s) – Mischievous.

ERNIE WALLACE – Philosophical, thoughtful, smokes a pipe.

1 OR 2 NURSES – Very attractive. Doting.

CLOWNS, ACROBATS – (for parade). Someone who can do flips would be great!

MOTHER & CHILD — (This child can be under 10 yrs.)

4 or MORE CATS (age 10-teens) – Children in cat costumes.

CAT SHOW JUDGES – A stuffy woman and a nerdy man.

GEORGEOUS CAT OWNER – Flirty, lots of makeup and jewelry.

PIERRE THE WAITER – French, sarcastic, loves romantic couples.

RUDY & SEARCHERS, PHOTOGRAPHER, DANCERS & VILLAGERS

Many of these roles can be doubled and/or played by performers of any gender.

THE GALWAY PLAYERS WELCOMES AUDITIONERS OF ALL AGES, GENDERS, ETHNICITIES AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES.  NON-TRADITIONAL CASTING WILL BE OBSERVED.
