The School of the Performing Arts is the education wing of the organization, offering a robust series of training programs, classes and engagement programs in each venue, in schools and throughout the community.
The School of Performing Arts at Proctors, in Schenectady, New York is seeking a Media Artist/Filmmaker to join its Collaborative School of the Arts team as a Full-Time MediaWorks Instructor.
MediaWorks is an arts education program designed to integrate media arts with curriculum to create new pathways for student success. The program pairs a professional media artist with high school English teacher(s) to co-develop new routes to curriculum instruction, using arts strategies to deliver project-based learning and help students develop skills that will last beyond graduation. The media projects act as a conduit for the English curriculum to ignite and excite students and encourage class involvement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as co-teacher in the classroom throughout the entire year including creating lesson plans, providing support and leadership in the classroom
- Instruct students in the use of media technology while using DSLR cameras, camera accessories, computers, and editing software.
- Work as co-teacher with English teacher to integrate all film and media projects into a curriculum appropriate for students.
- Contribute to planning sessions, curriculum development, student assessments, and grading. Facilitate program documentation including student work on Vimeo, lesson plans, student evaluations, and quarterly tracking of grades and attendance.
- Promote the creative process and advocate for student voice.
- Offer advice, ideas, technical knowledge, and experience in developing media-based projects.
- Tracks and cares for equipment and supplies purchased for the program.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in the related field, or minimum 3 years experience.
- Proficiencies working with Mac platforms. Software knowledge required: iMovie, Final Cut Pro 7 and 10, Adobe After Effects, and Photoshop.
- Teaching experience preferable, with a strong interest in or knowledge of media with TV and film production, and working with youth from diverse backgrounds that sometimes require understanding, empathy and inclusion.
- Web-based content management.
- Must be dependable, self-motivated, and proactive in problem-solving.
- Have a professional demeanor and appearance.
- Have the ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
- Be a team player that can work well with others.
- Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Possess strong verbal and written skills.
- A background check is required.
