Home Made Theater announces open auditions for their June production of the Tony Award-winning musical The Secret Garden, with music and lyrics by Marsha Norman and Lucy Simon, based on the novel by Francis Hodgson Burnett. This production will be directed by Eric Rudy, with musical direction by Richard Cherry, and choreography by Heather D’Arcy.
The auditions will be held on Sunday, March 10th from 1:00-5:00 (children and teens only), Sunday, March 11th from 6:00-9:00pm (teens and adults only), and Monday, March 12th (adults only) from 6:30-9:30 at Home Made Theater’s headquarters at the Wilton Mall (near Saratoga Hospital). Callbacks (by invitation only) will be held on Tuesday, March 13th.
The primary cast consists of four adult men, four adult women, one boy, and one girl (approximately 10 years old). There will also be ensemble roles available. Teens will be considered for some of the adult roles as well as the ensemble. All ethnicities and gender identities are encouraged to audition.
Orphaned in India, 11-year-old Mary Lennox returns to Yorkshire to live with her embittered, reclusive Uncle Archibald and his disabled son Colin. The estate’s many wonders include a magic garden which beckons the children with haunting melodies and the “Dreamers” – spirits from Mary’s past who guide her through her new life, dramatizing The Secret Garden‘s compelling tale of forgiveness and renewal.
For the audition, please prepare 32 bars of a song. Singers must provide their own music in their key. No A Cappella singing please. Readings will be provided. Bring a current photo (cannot be returned), and a resume (or list of any prior theater experience). Be prepared to list all potential conflicts from the first rehearsal through closing (with the exception of Tech Week and performances, conflicts can be worked around if known about in advance).
Rehearsals will start mid-April and be held Sunday afternoons and Monday through Thursday evenings. Until Tech Week, rehearsals will be held at Home Made Theater’s Wilton Mall headquarters. Rehearsals move to the performance space at The Pitney Meadows Community Farm starting with Tech Week.
Performances are weekends June 7th through June 16th There will be performances Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, and Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Saturdays are two show days.
