AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT:

Announcing Auditions for The Black Theatre Troupe of Upstate NY’s production of BERTA, BERTA by Angelica Chéri, directed by Michael A. Lake.

Set in 1920s Mississippi, BERTA, BERTA tells the story of Leroy, a Black man sent to jail for following a White woman down the street to help her–a supposed crime that never existed. Prison changes him and upon getting out, he finds himself again on the wrong side of the law, this time for real. Before giving himself back up to the police, he is determined to make amends with his long-lost girlfriend, Berta. The play highlights themes of doomed love, tragic misunderstandings, a flawed and biased prison system, and magical realism.

Auditions: July 16th and 17th at 6 PM @ the First Congregational Church, 405 Quail St, Albany, NY 12208. If you are able, please bring a prepared dramatic monologue. You may also be asked to read from the script.

Performances: October 17-27, 2024 @ theREP, 251 N. Pearl St., Albany, NY 12207.
