An immersive audience experience featuring Janelle Farias Sando with pianist Hudson Orfe, directed by Wendy Welch

ADAMS, MA—The Adams Theater will present a multi-night engagement in collaboration with Great Barrington Public Theater, “Night at the Speakeasy,” directed by Wendy Welch, from August 22-25.

Get ready for music, song and surprise–audience members will be seated onstage for a series of evenings that recreates a Roaring Twenties nightclub. “Night at the Speakeasy” features the wide-ranging voice and acting skills of Janelle Farias Sando carrying the audience back to the days of bootleg clubs, flappers, dance marathons, zoot suits and freedom through music, song and intemperance.

“Night at the Speakeasy” is a collaboration of Farias Sando, her accompanist Hudson Orfe and director Wendy Welch. Get your Jazz Age spangles and clubwear ready for an immersive, not-to-be-missed theatrical experience.

“The 1920’s saw the beginning of Prohibition, when people were unable to purchase alcohol legally. It was the time of glitter, high- living, underground clubs, secret doors, whispered passwords, bootleg champagne and the temptations of unbridled fun. Rules were there to be broken, and club music was suggestive, provocative,” said Welch. “The songs in this show are not strictly from that time, but carry that feel from different eras. We chose songs to create a night of fun, desire, playfulness, some naughtiness, romance, love and power struggles. The show celebrates freedom that defined the jazz age and that audiences still love a century later.”

“Night at the Speakeasy” will also run at Great Barrington Public Theater July 26-August 11.

The Adams Theater is excited to bring this show north and we’re excited to have Great Barrington Public Theater as a collaborator. Its mission is the development and production of new plays with a focus on playwrights and theater artists living in and nearby the Berkshires; since 2019, it has presented compelling, provocative new plays in the 300-seat McConnell Theater and intimate Liebowitz Black Box, in the state-of-the-art Daniel Arts Center, on the campus of Bard College at Simon’s Rock, and throughout the year at Saint James Place, both located in Great Barrington.
