The Creative License Theater Collective is currently in rehearsals for its upcoming production of Apartment 3A, for a special extended, one-weekend engagement September 5th through the 8th. The company is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and its third as the resident non-musical theater company at the historic Cohoes Music Hall.
Annie Wilson is having a bad day. After she catches her boyfriend in an acrobatic act of infidelity, she then has a televised melt-down during her job running telethons on the local PBS station. With her world turned upside down, and her faith in mankind shaken, she moves into a shabby apartment. But beyond the peeling paint and the lousy view, Apartment 3A may be the most magical move Annie has ever made. A sparkling romantic comedy by critically acclaimed actor Jeff Daniels, Apartment 3A is a treasure trove of quiet and humorous revelations as Annie confronts her fears and opens her heart to an unexpected suitor.
Brigitta Rose, last seen with Creative License in God of Carnage, plays Annie and David Quinones Jr., most recently in CL’s Afterlife: A Ghost Story, stars as her new neighbor Donald. Company newcomers Joe Plock and Stephen Henel play Annie’s co-workers Eliott and Tony, respectively, and Creative License co-founder Aaron Holbritter rounds out the cast as Annie’s new landlord, Dal.
Casey Polomaine, the show’s director, as well as the company’s other co-founder, has been boning up on her rom-com bonafides in preparation. “There aren’t very many romantic comedies I haven’t seen, but in getting ready to direct this, I watched Broadcast News (1987, James L. Brooks) which I, unbelievably, had never seen, and I just saw so much to draw from. I love this genre so much, and I’m excited that we get to tell these kinds of funny, heart-warming stories.”
Performances will run Thursday, Friday and Saturday, September 5-7 at 7:30pm and on Saturday and Sunday September 7 and 8, at 2pm. Tickets range from $18-$38 and are available for purchase at the Cohoes Music Hall Website, www.cohoesmusichall.org.
