THE GHENT PLAYHOUSE‘S 50th ANNIVERSARY SEASON will kick off with Paul Smith’s political satire, THE OUTSIDER, directed by Sky Vogel. Skewering politics and celebrating democracy, this timely and hysterical comedy will leave you laughing all the way home. Running two weekends October 7 – 20.
On December 14, ACT TWO, a musical singing group of local theater veterans, will grace our stage with a festive holiday concert for the whole family.
After last January’s successful staged reading, which featured many familiar faces from the community, we are thrilled to present another one this season. Join us for XINGU, an adapted version of Edith Wharton’s short story satirizing a snobby 1900’s ladies’ literary lunch group. Performances are scheduled for January 18 & 19, 2025.
Ed Dignum, who directed last season’s successful production of ALL MY SONS, returns to direct a production of Ken Ludwig’s LEND ME A TENOR, February 7-16. Winner of 3 Tony Awards and 4 Drama Desk Awards, this madcap, screwball comedy takes place in 1934, on the biggest night in the history of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, with world-famous tenor, Tito Merelli set to perform his greatest role ever at their gala season opener. Mayhem ensues when Tito arrives late to the event, accompanied by his tempestuous and jealous wife.
April 4-20 we will present a delightful musical, yet to be announced.
Our 2024-25 Anniversary Season will come to a close in June, with a GALA celebrating 50 years of the Ghent Playhouse, initially called the Columbia Civic Players. The evening will include a combination of fine comestibles, libations, and a live performance showcasing many favorites, recalling our 50-year history of incredible stage productions guaranteed to spark fond memories.
