In just ten days John McManus will be uplifting spirits with a marvelous Charles Dickens story that will most assuredly warm the cockles of even the most pitiful of hearts. Come for a marvelous tale of love lost and found at Christmas in jolly old England.
Doctor Marigold is one of the final stories of The Christmas Numbers compiled by Charles Dickens at the height of his career in 1865. The story, derived by Dickens for his public readings tour, immerses the audience in the magical characters of Dickensian England. This extraordinarily complex and profoundly stirring story is about the life of a cheap jack, a man who sells household wares from the footboard of his cart. In his life’s fateful journey, he discovers that all of the marvelous characters he meets, however flawed they may seem, have given him great gifts. At last, he reaches “a greater height of popularity than ever at the cheap jack work” and finally, as he eats his Christmas “beefsteak pudding for one,” he encounters a marvelous surprise.
Starring John McManus (Shakespeare Alive, MICHA – Michael Chekhov Association) Directed by Shae D’lyn (If It Bleeds It Leads, Boardwalk Empire)

Wingéd Monkeys is an open communal collaboration here in Hudson which began with the spontaneous readings of great works back on February 25th. The epic experience of reading the play Ondine with 27 of the 40 audience members reading cold was a triumphant celebration of the magic of flying by the seat of your pants.
Next we launched our series, Pieces: playwrights bringing new short works to the stage with minimal sets, costumes, effects, and fewer actors. The bare-bones aspects allow for our goals of intimacy and camaraderie, but with rehearsed works. The five ten-minute plays by Adam Tomei, Derek Murphy, Geoffrey Nauffts, and Joseph Walsh were interlaced with live music by Hudson’s favorite folk artist Phil Roebuck. And the standing-room-only crowds had a blast!
These events endeavor to offer less production-heavy theater that can bring independent artists and theater lovers together more often in this cozy beautiful space. We strive for theater that is accessible on every level to everyone.
