GREENFIELD, MA — The LAVA Center in Greenfield will reopen for its 5th Birthday Party, Friday, Jan. 31 through Sunday, Feb. 2. Information on that weekend can be found at https://thelavacenter.org/events/lavas-5th-birthday-party/.
After that weekend, LAVA will resume regular cafe/gallery hours and events. Here’s an update on new gallery hours, recurring events and special events.
LAVA’s updated cafe and gallery hours will be Thursdays, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. and 5–8 p.m.; Fridays, 5–8 p.m.; and Saturdays, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
Recurring events at The LAVA Center:
Beautiful Disasters Storytelling Open Mic + Potluck: 1st Thursdays, 6 p.m. food, 7 p.m. stories — Trouble Mandeson and Nisse Greenberg host a night of story and food sharing. All stories are meant to be true stories from your own life.
First Sunday Word (formerly Third Tuesday Word): 1st Sundays, 1 p.m. — Formerly Third Tuesday Word, Paul Richmond and Human Error Publishing’s long-running literary event.
Writers Read: 2nd Wednesdays, 7 p.m. — An opportunity for an audience to come and listen to local writers in an intimate environment. Three writers read from their work, followed by a discussion facilitated by Lindy Whiton.
LAVA Film Night: 2nd Thursdays, 6 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. — Films made by local filmmakers, films with a social or environmental focus brought to you by local organizations, films we just think you should see! With talkback sessions.
Story Circles: 2nd Fridays, 6–7:30 p.m. — A conversation circle sharing our stories. Some months may begin with a theme or prompt.
Open Stage @ LAVA: 3rd Thursdays, 7 p.m. (signups at 6:30 p.m.) — Like an open mic but MORE. Theater! Dance! Music! Literature! Spoken Word! Storytelling! Magic! Puppetry! Comedy! Improv! Any form of art or entertainment that can be staged, in any stage of development.
Theater of Ideas: 3rd Fridays, 6–7:30 p.m. — Guest speaker(s)/moderator(s) will present a topic for consideration and exploration. Starts Friday, Feb. 28, then every 3rd Friday from then on.

Jazz Jam @ LAVA: Thursday, Feb. 27, 6–8 p.m. — Join David Greenberg and Arlene Robbins (performing as “Two for Jazz”) and other local musicians for a jazz jam session.
