Pioneer Valley Ballet (PVB) will bring its fantasy adaptation of Aladdin and His Magic Lamp to the historic Academy of Music theater in Northampton on May 10th for two performances.
Set to a score featuring composers like Rimsky-Korsakov and Khachaturian, PVB’s Aladdin and His Magic Lamp is a reimagined tale of Aladdin’s journey to win the love of the beautiful circus performer “Princess Jasmine.” Aladdin, a kind-hearted street urchin, finds a magic lamp that releases a powerful genie who grants him three wishes. Aladdin uses his wishes to defeat the evil Great Alberto, a power-hungry circus ringleader, and live happily ever after with “Princess Jasmine.”
Under the direction of Co-Artistic Directors Maryanne Kodzis and Thomas Vacanti, this enchanting adaptation is filled with fantastical characters, beautiful scenery and exquisite choreography. Aladdin and His Magic Lamp features nearly 100 cast members, including Pioneer Valley Ballet dancers and guest artists along with community performers from across Western MA.
Performances are scheduled for Saturday, May 10th at 1:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $23-$45 plus Academy service fee. This event is also participating in the Massachusetts Card to Culture program.
