THEATER VOICES will present “Butterflies are Free” by Leonard Gersh, the play that inspired the 1972 movie starring Goldie Hawn, in four staged reading performances directed by Yvonne Perry over the weekend of May 16-18, 2025. As always, admission is FREE, with donations graciously accepted.
THE STORY: Young Don Baker has been blind since birth, his overprotective mother following his every move. At long last, he decides to take his own apartment in Manhattan to pursue his songwriting ambitions. When Mrs. Baker meets his sexy, kooky actress neighbor Jill, her controlling instincts go into overdrive, with hilariously touching results. The New York Post called the play “Charming, humorous, winning and quietly moving.”
