We are proud to share our upcoming season of theatrical productions at Hubbard Hall. This season features a range of exciting and ambitious works that reflect our ongoing commitment to artist-centered, inclusive, and community-rooted storytelling. From free Shakespeare to opera and promenade performance, our productions this year will continue to make full use of our unique campus and deepen our engagement with local history, artists, and audiences.
2025–2026 Season at a Glance
As You Like It by William Shakespeare
Directed by Megan Stacey | Summer 2025 Free Shakespeare Tour
This gender-blind and sensory-inclusive production reimagines the Forest of Arden as a space of freedom, love, and transformation. Touring outdoors to bring free performances to communities across the region, this year’s Shakespeare production integrates ASL and inclusive design to create a more welcoming theater experience. Look for an upcoming article in the Times Union this weekend to learn more about this production and Hubbard Hall’s expanding inclusion efforts.
Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl
Directed by Sarah Murphy | Fall 2025 Mainstage
Sarah Ruhl’s poetic retelling of the Orpheus myth invites audiences into a surreal world shaped by memory and grief. Presented from Eurydice’s perspective, this production transforms the Hall through striking visual design and sensory-forward storytelling.
Amahl and the Night Visitors by Gian Carlo Menotti
Directed by Dianna Heldman | Winter 2025 Mainstage
Opera returns to Hubbard Hall with this beloved one-act. In our production, the miracle Amahl receives is not a cure but the accommodations that allow him to thrive. Centering disability justice, this staging reimagines the crutch not as a symbol of healing but of independence and belonging.
Fefu and Her Friends by María Irene Fornés
Directed by Erin Nicole Harrington | Spring 2026 Mainstage
This intimate, groundbreaking play will unfold across all four buildings of the Hubbard Hall campus. As the characters prepare an educational presentation, the story echoes the work of The Community Partnership, whose efforts restored the former freight yard buildings and helped establish Hubbard Hall as the vibrant arts education center it is today.
Sunday in the Park with George by Stephen Sondheim
Directed by Dianna Heldman | Summer 2026 Mainstage
Sondheim’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical about creativity, legacy, and connection brings the season to a close. This production will highlight ties to our local visual arts community and feature performers across generations in a celebration of what it means to make and sustain art.
