The Ghent Playhouse is pleased to announce auditions for the first production of its 2025-26 Season, “The Thanksgiving Play” by Larissa FastHorse, directed by Brian Wagner.

Auditions will be held on Sunday, August 3 and Monday, August 4 at 7:00 p.m., at the Ghent Playhouse, located at 6 Town Hall Road in Ghent, NY, with possible callbacks on Tuesday, August 5 at 7:00 p.m.

SYNOPSIS:

In this wickedly funny satire, good intentions collide with absurd assumptions, as a troupe of terminally woke teaching artists scrambles to create a pageant that somehow manages to celebrate both Turkey Day and Native American Heritage Month.

ROLES:

LOGAN – (Female) – The high school drama teacher who’s always pushing the envelope in potentially inappropriate ways.  She is earnest about theater and proving herself.  She is producing this play in a desperate attempt to save her job.

JAXTON – (Male) – An actor, yoga practitioner and Logan’s boyfriend.  Politically   correct to a fault… a big one.  He’s the confident guy that everyone loves, but his overly logical PC thinking takes weird turns.  .

ALICIA – (Female/Brunette) – Has looks that would have been cast as “ethnic” in 1950’s movies.  Without guile, Alicia is sexy and hot, but not all that bright.

CADEN – (Male) – The academic; the awkward elementary school history teacher with dramatic aspirations, but no experience.

AUDITIONS

Those auditioning will be asked to read scenes from the script.

Please note that the pronouns of the characters in the play cannot be altered, so actors should be comfortable being referred to as the pronouns assigned to the characters they are auditioning for.

NOTE ON CASTING

Auditions are open to all ages for any of the four characters.  We strongly urge Caucasian looking actors of any ethnic, racial or cultural background to audition.

THE REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:

Rehearsals will be scheduled based on the availability of those chosen for the production and will be 3-4 evenings per week.  There will be a meet and greet/read-thru in August, with rehearsals beginning, in earnest, after Labor Day.  We ask those  interested in auditioning to be as specific as possible in listing any and all conflicts on their audition form.

PERFORMANCE DATES

October 17 through 26, 2025 – Friday and Saturday evening performances at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday afternoon matinee performances at 2:00 p.m.

Please note that there is also a required preview performance on Thursday, evening, October 16 at 7:30 p.m.
