In true WAM Theatre fashion, the Summer Soirée – set for Sunday, July 27 from 11:30 am-2:30 pm at the Doctor Sax House in Lenox – honors an extraordinary female changemaker — award-winning playwright Pearl Cleage (Blues for an Alabama Sky, Flyin’ West, and Angry, Raucous, and Shamelessly Gorgeous, among many) — for the inaugural presentation of The Pearl Award given to a fearless woman who has dedicated her life to empowering women and girls.
Springfield, MA born Cleage spent most of her life in Georgia. With a career spanning 40 years and over 30 plays, novels, poems, and essays; she became Atlanta’s first poet laureate.
We’re humbled Pearl granted us the honor to name this new award after her and her legacy.
