Each year, the Chapman Museum in Glens Falls, NY, presents a Cemetery Tour that brings local history to life through a series of monologues performed by actors at a local cemetery.
Each actor performs their monologue six times, once for each tour group of approximately 20 people. Tours are staggered throughout the day, typically beginning every half hour.
This year’s tour will take place on Saturday, September 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Glens Falls (Bay Street) Cemetery.
We are currently seeking two volunteer actors to join this year’s performance:
Ernest Parham (Black/African American male actor, age 16–60): Ernest was a Glens Falls High School graduate who became an accomplished dancer, choreographer, and actor, performing on Broadway and appearing on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. After retiring, he returned to Glens Falls to work as a mental health counselor and remained active in the arts, especially with the Glens Falls Operetta Club (now Glens Falls Community Theater). While dance experience is a plus, it is not required for this role.
Zopher “Z.I.” DeLong (White male actor, age 40–60): Zopher was the original owner of the DeLong House, now part of the Chapman Museum. A hardware store owner, he played a key role in the rebuilding of Glens Falls after the fire of 1864. This role will be performed as a dialogue between Zopher and his wife, Catherine, who was an active member of the Presbyterian Church and mother of their eight children.
If you or someone you know might be interested — or if you’re willing to share this opportunity — we’d be grateful.
