Cambridge, NY – Hubbard Hall Theater Company is proud to present Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl, running October 3–12, 2025, directed by Sarah Murphy. This modern retelling of the Orpheus myth transforms Hubbard Hall’s historic, uniquely flexible theater space into a dreamlike world where love, memory, and loss collide. Murphy says, “Orpheus appears throughout mythology, and his legendary music was what gained him entry into the Underworld. But of Eurydice, all we know is that she was Orpheus’s wife. This play imagines who else she may have been. A lover, a thinker, perhaps a writer? Most certainly a daughter. Sarah Ruhl examines youth, grief, and love amidst a unique vision of an Underworld that feels more like a wonderland than a hellscape.”
Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM, and Sundays at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for students 21 and under. A Sensory Friendly/Relaxed Performance will take place on Saturday, October 4 at 7:30 PM, ensuring that the production is welcoming to audience members of all sensory needs.
“Eurydice is a visually stunning piece that really comes alive in the adaptable, historic space of Hubbard Hall,” says Erin Harrington, Executive Director of Hubbard Hall Theater Company. “The ingenuity of our creative team, through imaginative staging, special effects, and the seamless integration of space and story, creates a world that feels magical and immersive.”Murphy adds, “”It has been a delight to work with this incredible group of artists and dig into a text rich with history, humor, and imagination.”
The production follows Eurydice (Anna Dempf) as a tragic accident on her wedding day pulls her into the underworld. There, she reunites with her father (Doug Ryan) and navigates a surreal landscape filled with talking stones and a raining elevator, while confronting the pull between her past and the love she shares with Orpheus (Tennyson Perkins). Supporting performances include Kevin Miner as Man/Child, Neeley Dessant as Little Stone, Jackie DeGiorgis as Loud Stone, and Matt Bonacci as Big Stone.
While the creative team employs a rich array of effects to bring this fantastical world to life, Hubbard Hall is committed to accessibility. The sensory-friendly performance on October 4 ensures that all audience members can experience the magic of Eurydice in a comfortable and welcoming environment.
