Tuesday, November 4 & Thursday, November 6

Sign-ups begin at 7:15 pm, auditions begin at 7:30 pm

Location:

Schenectady Civic Players is located at 12 S. Church St, Schenectady, NY, 12305.

Performance Dates:

January 30 – February 8, 2026

Friday / Saturday at 8:00 pm, Sunday at 2:30 pm, Wednesday/Thursday at 7:30 pm

Rehearsals:

There will be 3-4 rehearsals per week, days/times depending on cast availability.

Please, bring lists of conflicts to auditions.

Synopsis:

In the Next Room or the vibrator play” is a comedy about marriage, intimacy, and the dawn of electricity. Set in the 1880s, Dr. Givings, a scientist, unknowingly revolutionizes treatment for “hysteria” with his new invention—the vibrator. As new patients and their relationships intertwine with his own household, his wife begins to question what’s really happening in the next room, leading to revelations about love, desire, and connection.

Available Roles:

Casting open to all races unless otherwise indicated in description.

Dr. Givings, 35-60, a specialist in gynecological and hysterical disorders.

Catherine Givings, his wife, a woman 25-55. 

Sabrina Daldry, his patient, a woman 25-55.

Mr. Daldry, Sabrina Daldry’s husband, a man 35-60.

Annie, a woman 25-55, Dr. Givings’s midwife assistant.

Elizabeth, an African-American woman 20-45, a wet nurse by default.

Leo Irving, Dr. Givings’s other patient, an Englishman 20-45. 

Auditions will be sets from the play.
