The Mopco Improv Theatre in Schenectady seeks one or more additional accompanists for our improv shows.

A good improv accompanist is able to play in a variety of genres, collaborating with the improv actors by laying down chordal and rhythmic structure for creation of songs in the moment, in front of the audience. It takes a keen ability to listen and adjust on the fly.

In addition, a good improv accompanist adds underscoring to select scenes and improv games. In some ways this is similar to good movie scoring— improv underscoring heightens/comments on the action of the scene without stealing the focus.

We have a tiny theatre, so we can’t pay much, but there is some pay. Most performances are Friday and Saturday nights at our theatre, but we also do private gigs in the theatre and at other locations. We supply the keyboard and amplification. For exceptional candidates there may be opportunities to co-teach improv music workshops as well.
