Auditions:

Friday January 23 at 6:30pm and Saturday January 24 at 6:30pm

at Creative Action Unlimited, 6 Greenwood Drive, East Greenbush NY 12061

Synopsis:

All The Colors will explore issues of gender and sexual identity, acceptance, and their conflict with the expectations of a society that increasingly restricts the range of socially and legally acceptable expression.

Within this world, where living authentically is increasingly dangerous, people are faced with difficult choices: Do they hide who they are to survive, uphold the current harmful social standards, or bind together in support of each other in defiance of a rigid gender framework? This piece will explore these concepts through a central metaphor of invisible light theory – so that we may find a way to make each and every light and color visible.

Character Descriptions
(Please Note: This work is still in development and details can change between audition and performance.)

The Rebels

(Role Type: Non-Cis Roles)
Actor Requirements: Calling for non-cisgender actors for these roles specifically. Actors considered for these parts may be of any cis-identity within or outside of the binary

Red (Transgender Male) is more new and tentative in his transition. He worries often and is trying very hard not to rock the boat, sometimes to the dismay of his friends Aster (and especially) Violet. However, when risks increase and the proverbial hammer falls, Red must decide whether he will stand up or stand down on behalf of himself and the friends he knows, admires and loves.

Violet (Transgender Female) is headstrong and wants most desperately to be visible to the world. Intense and driven, she yearns to be seen/valued and wants the same for those she loves, putting herself out there in ways that are both rash and brave. Eventually, she finds herself in an impossible situation where she is both seen and punished for it. She has a traumatizing experience that shakes her to her core, one from which she feels there is no return.

Aster (Nonbinary) likes to start shit but within reason. More alike with Violet than Red, Aster believes there needs to be some push against the restrictions closing in, but only nearly skates by in situations of danger when the powerful in society sense their defiance. They might chameleon slightly to ensure safety of themselves and their friends when circumstances become heated, but their goals, desires, and needs for a better world never waver.

The Examiners
(Role Type: Cis roles)
Actor requirements: These roles are open to all.

Rae (Fem/Queer) experiences a moment of significant change and reflection. She begins questioning what she knows after connecting deeply with a character very unlike herself, who invites her to look at gender and individuals exploring their own gender identity through a completely new lens.

Mike (Male/Queer) is a staunch believer in the constructs that have shaped his world and protected him in it. Ruled by fear, he is stuck and is not yet ready to step out of line. Mike takes comfort in ideas he can understand fully, and wants Rae (and anyone else) to simply lay low and to just follow the map laid out for them so that no one gets hurt.
